Drugs gang caged after cops' probe
A DRUGS gang was sentenced to more than 64 years in prison for supplying cocaine and laundering nearly £10 million, writes Glenn mcmahon.
Three members of the gang from Wembley, received nearly 15 years between them.
The convictions came after a 21 month long investigation by police between January 2008 and October 2009.
DCI Peter Bayer, of the Metropolitan Police Central task Force, said: "This group of men went to great lengths to disguise their criminal activity.
"They set up false businesses to enable them to push millions of pounds through legitimate bureau de changes to pay for the drugs they were dealing."
Emiljan Shega, 19, Xhovan Gripshi, 31, and Fabiol Beqiri, 23, all of Priory Gardens, Wembley, were imprisoned for ten years, two years nine months and two years respectively when they appeared at Kingston Crown Court.
Mr Shega had earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply a controlled class A drug, Mr Gripshi to allowing a premises to be used for the supply of class A drugs and Mr Beqiri to conspiracy to launder the proceeds of a conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
During the investigation detectives established that large quantities of cocaine were being supplied from three north west London addresses, including Priory Gardens.
A subsequent raid at the address on March 21, 2009, turned-up eight kilos of cocaine, a cutting agent, a large drugs press and around £100,000 in cash.
All three, and an accomplice, Besnik Alla, 31, of Princes Parade, Golders Green, were arrested at the scene.
More cocaine and cash were recovered at Mr Alla's house.
The majority of the money, which was laundered through a bureaux de change in west London, has never been traced.
