FACING tough questions is part of everyday life for a politician, but the interviewers are not usually primary school children, writes Kate Ferguson.
Children at Braintcroft Primary School, in Warren Road, Neasden, grilled Sarah Teather, the Lib Dem Brent Central MP, on what the Government is doing to get more children into education worldwide at a question and answer event last Friday.
The school council interviewed Sarah Teather, who is minister for children and families, on the Government's policies, and asked her to remind the prime minister and other world leaders of their promise to make sure by 2015 all children have a primary education.
Later, during an assembly, students presented her with a giant paper football scarf which they created to show their support for the 72 million children worldwide who miss out on school.
During the World Cup, the school joined the 1GOAL campaign, which calls for a right to an education for all children.
Students drew up a petition urging the Government to fulfil its commitment to ensure all children receive a primary school education, and plan to deliver it to Number 10 Downing Street later in the year.
Nicola Inson, the teacher who organised the visit, said: "Braintcroft School Council were so pleased that Sarah Teather accepted our invitation to meet them.
"The children were really excited to ask their MP about children missing out on school and were even more excited to be invited to 10 Downing Street to hand over the petition."
Ms Teather said: "I really enjoyed meeting the children at Braintcroft Primary School and was so pleased to be invited by the school council.
"It was great to meet young people who have such an interest and concern for the world around them and a desire to help those less fortunate.
"There is so much energy and enthusiasm in our local schools and it's wonderful to see it directed at such worthwhile projects."
