ADRIAN Green and Pupudu Sameera took Wembley a step closer to safety in Division Three as they secured a winning draw against North London on Saturday.

Club skipper Green made 56 for the hosts, while Sameera ended the innings on 61 not out as Wembley set a competitive 241-5 - and North London's chase ran out of steam as Wembley picked up the four points.

Green's side now sit comfortably in fifth place and, with six games remaining this season, will be looking up the table rather than downwards.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Wembley made a solid start, with Prinay Patel hitting a useful 31 before he was bowled by Tom Wakeford.

The next two wickets fell cheaply, with Mohemmed Azam (13) trapped lbw by Byron Hackshall, and Sneh Shah (10) caught by Patrick Mills, again from Wakeford, but Wembley's middle-order steadied the ship, with Robbie Vandermeulen adding a morale-boosting knock of 44.

Vandermeulen fell to James Baker, but Green stepped in to continue the revival with 56, and Sameera added 61 to the Wembley total.

Sneh Shah ensured a tough start for North London as they set about overhauling the home side, taking the wickets of Jack Atchinson (13) and Mills (2).

Hackshall (69) drove North London on but, when he was bowled by Mohemmed, Wembley scented victory.

Azar dismissed Jeff Hurrell for 3, before Vandermeulen caught James Battcock for a duck from Azam's delivery.

But Mark Askew proved a frustrating obstacle for Wembley, and his knock of 50 kept North London in it.

But once Vinay Shah dismissed Askew the North London innings collapsed and, despite 30 for Ben Wakeford, Wembley held out to take the four points.

Wembley now face a tough test at league leaders Hornsey on Saturday.
