TAKE a deep breath as you fire up this deepest and darkest of games that as readily explores the realms of dreams as it does nightmares.

Dragon Age: Origins is everything any fan of the role-playing genre has been swearing an oath of allegiance for these many moons, so expect to lose large swathes of your gaming time from the moment you start levelling up.

Magical mayhem

Gamers take on the role of a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians.

As a rising undead evil threatens to destroy all life, players are sworn to unite the shattered lands and slay the corrupted Archdemon dragon.

To restore peace, the Wardens must make ruthless decisions and be willing to sacrifice their friends and loved ones for the greater good.

And this is a truly massive world that the players step into with a party of three others.

The game becomes ever bigger - a cornerstone of Origins - with developers earmarking support for the title for at least the next two years.

At launch, Origins is available on all three platforms with several packs of downloadable content (DLC) including The Stone Prisoner, the Blood Dragon Armour and Warden's Keep.

The Stone Prisoner gives players access to new environments, items, hours of additional gameplay and the mighty (and comedic) stone golem Shale who can become one of the most powerful party members in the game.

The Warden's Keep DLC provides players with a new dungeon-exploring adventure, new loot including a set of ancient Grey Warden armour, a chance to gain two of six mysterious new abilities, a new base complete with merchants and a party chest to store their hard-earned items.

And with the DLC Return to Ostagar available before Christmas count on each addition further enriching gameplay.
